Gary is a
Florida native who has lived in Brevard County since 1976, after
being assigned to Patrick Air Force Base. He is married with six children
and currently resides in Cocoa. Gary is a United States Air Force veteran,
serving four years active duty and six years in the Reserve.
After serving his country in the US Air Force, Gary began serving the
citizens of Brevard County in 1981, when he joined the Sheriff's Office. He
served in a wide variety of positions with BCSO and is an enormously experienced and
respected law enforcement professional.
Gary has worked in every geographic region in Brevard County from North to South and
has held the following positions: patrol deputy, agent, patrol sergeant, investigations
sergeant, lieutenant, major (county-wide watch commander) and precinct commander.
In 2007, after 26 years of service with Brevard County Sheriff's
Office, Gary retired and announced his candidacy for Sheriff.
Having worked under three different Sheriffs, Gary has seen the good, bad and ugly of Sheriff politics. Gary is a straight shooter who is committed to creating a Sheriff's Office committed to public service and crime prevention and not political pay-backs and patronage.
Gary holds an A.A. and A.S. degree from Brevard Community
College, a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida, and is a
graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institutes Administrative Officers Course. Gary has also completed the Seaport Security Anti-terrorism Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and has received thousands of hours of advanced law enforcement training.
