Sheriff of Brevard County. I am
running for Sheriff because I
know that the agency is capable
of achieving a much higher level
of performance in a cost
effective manner through sound
and proven crime fighting
strategies. These law
enforcement strategies, combined
with proven cost saving measures
will give the citizens of
Brevard County the best possible
law enforcement services at the
lowest possible costs.
During the first 3 years of
our current Sheriff’s
administration, crime in
unincorporated Brevard County
has risen by a staggering 29.6%.
(Uniform Crime Report, Crime
Index, January 2005 through June
30, 2007). This crime
increase occurred during a time
of strong national and local
economies and modest increases
in population growth here in
Brevard County. In addition, the
budget for the Brevard Sheriff’s
Office has increased by an
unprecedented 28 MILLION DOLLARS
(a 36% increase). (A

the FY 2007 budgets of the
Brevard County Sheriff’s
Office).
There has never been a better
time for our local elected
officials to make the changes
that will hold local government
accountable for providing
effective services in a cost
efficient manner. Historically,
recessions in the economy drive
crime rates higher. The next
Sheriff will face limited
financial resources and must
maximize available tax dollars
not only to provide the basics
but to effectively deal with the
increases of crime in Brevard
County.
My desire to become Sheriff
is based upon my vision to
provide a truly professional and
responsive agency that meets the
present and future needs of our
growing community. Fighting
crime, providing safe streets,
homes, schools and businesses
can only be accomplished through
real cooperation and
partnerships with all parts of
our community.
I have the insight that only
one with 25 years of continuous
service within the agency could
have. I also know all too well
that the Sheriff’s Office must
be prepared and capable of
changing to meet the future as
Brevard continues its transition
from a suburban to metropolitan
community. We are already seeing
the impact of crime from this
transition.
Now more than ever we need an
experienced law enforcement
officer running our Sheriff's
Office. As your Sheriff I will
prepare the agency to meet the
future and foster an environment
that provides for safe
communities throughout Brevard
County.
